Meet Shaun
Shaun has been a Registered Domestic Builder since 2015, a qualified carpenter since 2006 and a successful business owner for nearly 20 years.
He began his career as an apprentice carpenter for a renovation builder in Kensington. Working on many heritage homes learning the basic's of the building industry. Taking in all the knowledge he could, through his amazingly knowledgeable employer, Peter Binks. Then onto subcontracting to boutique builders across Melbourne with a small team of apprentices. Over time, the business grew to include more than 15 carpenters and several trusted subcontractors, working alongside some of Melbourne’s leading boutique builders.
In 2019, Built to Last Homes transitioned from a predominantly carpentry-based business into the client-focused building company it is today.
We now create beautiful, practical homes designed for real families. Shaun works closely with each homeowner to improve the functionality and usability of their space while keeping affordability and long-term value at the forefront.
A Few Things About Shaun
Shaun is a master at thinking outside the proverbial box. He can look at a set of plans—or simply stand within a space—and envision possibilities that others may not see.
He also has a habit of keeping almost anything that might one day become useful—“hoarding,” in Sharee’s words—before turning it into something practical and usually pretty impressive. Much to Sharee’s frustration at times!
Above all, Shaun is a perfectionist.
Every. Single. Piece. Of. Timber. plays an important role in the finished result. If something isn’t right, it won’t be covered up or worked around—it will be removed and done properly.
Shaun believes that the quality of the finished home is determined from the very beginning: the foundations.
If the foundations are wrong, no amount of packing, planning or “fudging” can produce a truly flawless result. Every detail must be considered from the outset—from the structural set-out through to the placement of individual tiles.
Careful planning creates a better finish, and strong foundations create homes that are truly built to last.
